Come on along as we visit each of the Build-Off
garages to find out what each is doing. These builders have 9 months to build, complete and drive their rides into the Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Oh. Friday July 19th, 2013 under each machines own power.
Only two restrictions, utilize a Model A body and paint the cars a Blue Suede!
Round 4
Cold Winter Months.
Bill Huff, Canton, Oh. It was a typical Ohio winter day when we visited Huff’s backyard garage. He had his torpedo heater goin’ full strength, but there’s something about a concrete floor and cold steel that never seems to warm up. Bill was already bolting on his Vega steering box and showed us how he shortened up the ladder bars moving the ladder bar cross member mount so it doesn’t interfere with the tans mount since he’s installing a ‘93 S10 5 speed and it will make removal of the tranny much easier. It’s pre-thinking at this stage that will make life easier in the long run. I brought good news, Olmsted Auto Electric has come on board as a “Product Sponsor” and will give both builders a starter and alternator.
Jeff Shuman, East Rochester, Oh. Last month Jeff had decided to chop the top and had all the measurements made and had secured the inside of the body for strength so it doesn’t collapse once the top is off. If you remember from last months article, he chose to build his own frame, and he’ll have to spend a few cold weeks boxing the frame and getting it fitted for engine and radiator placement. Soon, during the weeks ahead, we’ll all visit the Akzo Nobel Paint Center for a tour, paint advice and how they’ll get the “suede” look exactly right! More Updates and pictures just put up on www.cruisintimes.org
