Rock 'n Race' at Dragway 42 set for 2010

It’s a Kar Kulture event, it’s a run what ya brung event, it’s a rock-a-billy event all on the historic grounds of Dragway 42, in West Salem Ohio and has just announced their 2010 event for July 23, 24 & 25th.

All day it’s the rumble of flathead engines echo through out the pits, as show goers try their hand at the 1320.  Not to say there aren’t small blocks of every kind, big blocks too and those that go “thump-ity thump” with the assist of a supercharger.

But the Rock 'N Race is mainly designed for the average "Joe" to do non-stress "Fun Runs".

"Sherm" all the way from Dubois Pa., ran his "Rivets & Tin" '41 Chevy Coupe all day down the quarter mile and had the time of his life.  He freely admits, he put that 'ol clunker together just for the Rock N Race and will be back next year.

The pits really aren’t what they normally are at Dragway 42, "normal" as current day door slammers are replaced with roadsters and coupes parked next to trailered gassers and nostalgia rails and everybody gets along just fine.

Actually this year it seemed the entire length of Dragway 42 from the ticket booth to the staging lanes were packed with participants and that included spectator parking that had lots of interested folks - young and old - wondering “just how did ya get that thing so low?”.

A stroll around could result in the “hungries” as lots of Bar-B-Qing was goin’ on, or it could result in the find of a lifetime at the swap meet.   Then at night, the “Rock” portion of the title to the show comes alive as a steady flow of rockabilly bands take their turn providing the spark for an evening of loosy-goosy party time fun!

The Rock N Race, has now settled into becoming a major regional event in the Mid-West by attracting participants from Pa., West Virginia, Indiana and Michigan as well as Ohio.
